Filmed in Canada, the USA and Poland, authentic locations consisted of a cattle car that was used to deport people to Siberia, Majdanek Nazi concentration camp in Lublin and a country home in Eastern Poland. 

The official death toll at the Majdanek concentration camp stands at 78,000 while informed estimates range as high as 360,000. The inmates included people of 54 nationalities from 28 different countries.  

According to a 1993 study of archival Soviet data, a total of 1,053,829 people died in the Soviet Gulag from 1934 to 1953, and 10 million people were sent to the camps in Siberia from 1934 to 1947.
